nerdy velma

nerdy velma, originally uploaded by Jublin.

playing around in illustrator after watching the scooby doo movie. Trying to figure out the most effective and efficient way to color in the program.

Although i was working on the nerd version, the movie has a much sexier Velma. rawr.

fight with your WORDS man!

type fight, originally uploaded by Jublin.

a design i just finished up and subbed over to threadless. We shall soon see what others think of it. It was fun to play around with typography for a change. Hopefully, I'll try more of that in the FUTURE!

cute little things!

i did a few designs for a nice little eco-friendly company called Leo Goes Grr. It was good practicing in illustrator, which i'm not really used to, and i'm happy with how they turned out but now I really feel like i need to draw someone getting punched in the head. Cute overload.

Storyboards... yeah!

Well i'm working on some serious business now. Nope, no i'm not. But I'm trying to get a job and someone recommended I do some storyboards to throw in with my portfolio. You got it dude. This scene is kind of based off of another scene from one of my favorite movies. But what movie?!

Ok i figured i'd try and just set these up for sale. We'll see what happens! And if anyone is selling something or plans on selling something or wants to make a sweet art trade then I'd be up for that too. for sure. Let me know! Also there are a few that are seen here that aren't in the store yet. Eventually the rest will pop up if they haven't already sold out. Ask about that too if you are interested.

aigawesome

my family, originally uploaded by Jublin.

On saturday I went to the San Diego student portfolio review put on through AIGA and it was amazing. It was great to see a bunch of other local students (well graduates now) that are in the same field and check out their work. There was some crazy cool stuff.

And the super great thing is that i won stuff! I won the best of Illustration award and the best of Interactive award. It was insane! I totally didn't not expect it. I also won 5th place overall. It was such a rush and gave me a little natural high for the rest of the day. There were tons of great portfolios so it felt really amazing to be picked for something. Next stop... the White House! I'm moving up, can't stop now.

alphabet VECTORS!

Front and Back, originally uploaded by Jublin.

(flip it and reverse it)

This is a little book i made to show with my portfolio. I came up with the alphabet idea because i thought it would be a good way to trick people into thinking i'm clever. The purpose of this was to really show more vector art that I wasn't able to show in my portfolio. It's a little companion piece. Everyone needs a buddy.

I just printed the pages out myself and got it bound at kinkos so it was really cheap to make. Maybe i'll make more?

welcome to the dreamboat

This is the lovely derby car I'm sending over to threadless for their Threadlemanss derby race. I think this guy will be too heavy and too ride to actually race, but i'm still crossing my fingers!

Stuff for Shirts!

It's been a long while since i've posted anything, but i'd like to fix that and start updating more often. Or at least every once in a while. Here's a quick update of a lot of the work I have been doing for shirts.

the people i lived with

i was asked to draw the people i lived with when i was in australia and so i did. :) great story isn't it?

he's back!

I made it back to the states all in one structurally sound well built piece (of meat). It feels good to be back home, but i do miss all of my Australian friends/enemies. To Wong Fu Australia, thanks for everything. - Julie Justin White

I'm supposed to draw caricatures of all the housemates I lived with while staying in Australia so that it can maybe be used for some sort of yearbook thing that I will probably never see. I'm getting to old for this shit! Just kidding lolza! I've done a few already and it's good fun, so i'll try and finish those up before i get too lazy and forget about them.

Until then... here is a very important part of a speech I animated in one of my classes.

zoo things

I finally scanned in some more of the sketches I made while visiting all my favorite animal friends at the zoo a few months ago. I even got BBQ sauce on my sketch book thanks to a certain old lady someone who happened to be slopping all over her chicken fingers nearby.

I've been to the San Diego zoo a couple times now, but this was my first trip with a sketchbook and pencil materials. I still couldn't find half of the animals I was looking for, so I made do with what little animals punks I could find.

Husband is Soldier

My roommate made a puppet show movie short for the film festival at our school and I'm think ing it's gonna blow all those other pretentious films out of the Deep Blue Sea. (my hat is like a shark's fin)

The actual film department is probably the
worst they could ever possibly be at managing to put together a decent poster to advertise the festival. I don't think they were even going to have one this semester until someone threw something together at the last minute. How can they not simply ask one of the million art students to come up with something? Isn't there anyone in the film department that can put pictures and words on to a piece of paper in an attractive order? I'm sure there are, but I guess the head honchos don't know how to find these people and no one wants to step forward. The huge gap separating the film and art department is one of the main reasons i ended up switching my major. Also, all the good looking girls are in art.

My roommate was saying that the poster project somehow trickled down to me. How did that happen?! So i was sort of indirectly asked to come up with something if i had time. I thought about it, but when I realized my roommate's film would be in it I decided to make a poster specifically for his. Who cares about the rest? (nobody) Just go see this one! (ok!)

The other day I was emailed the actual poster for the festival. I think you're supposed to study or do some research before you look at it because it doesn't make any sense if you don't. On the right is the one i made for my roommate.

And here is the film. Enjoey! (lawrence)

More noods

Here are a few drawings from class. This is me experimenting with watercolor crayons and how they interact/react/cooperate/get along/fightcrime/and work with water. This is definitely my favorite class this semester and I'm gonna try to take many more life drawing classes when ever I can. The harderst part is working so quickly and under a time limit because these are human beings i'm working with! They live, breathe, eat, drink, play video games, sleep, eat, sing, and move just like you and me. I'm also not really used to drawing on such a big scale so this class has been testing me a lot like the movie Running Man with Arnold S. It's really a big help, and if nothing else i get to just look at naked people. AWKWARD! (or is it?)

these are way too big to fit in my scanner so i'm sorry for the crappy photos... i'm not a robot!

Horse Shit!

Sorry about the language, but it makes a pretty great title, right? Well anyway... here's a sketch that started off as just some doodle nonesense in my notes, but I ended up using it to try out a couple of programs I'm learning to use. Follow along cause this will be fun!
Heeeere weeeee goooooo!

Here's what started out as my weird pencil sketch. I think I had that song stuck in my head. You know the one? "Put me in coach, I'm ready to play... today... hooray" something like that.

This is where I tested out my new illustrator skills. I'm finally learning to use the pen tool and different ways to digitally ink my drawings with illustrator. All thanks to a class I'm taking in school. I guess school is pretty cool... well I'll be a monkey's butt. :/

Oh yeah? Well school didn't teach me Jack DANIELS about this program! This is me trying to learn how to use Corel Painter. It's cool, but it's freaking hard. There's too many brushes slash paints slashes options and for someone who hasn't painted since ever, it's a pretty hard program to make friends with. I'm not done with this one yet, but I just wanted to post it in case I never get around to finishing it. I wish I could take a digital painting class or something. Or at least just hook up to that machine from the matrix that taught Neo kung-fu. ...maybe some day... maybe the one day!

OK peace be with you.

get naked

wanted:
a naked person (or more preferably a naked humanoid robot)

haha this one makes me laugh. i wish i could say that long face wasn't on purpose, but it totally was. Yeah that's right, i just messed with Michelangelo! he's dead, what's he gonna do about it?

a couple of these drawings are from pictures and diagrams i found online, so unfortunately they weren't from le nude. It's hard work finding someone to pose naked for leftover original recipe KFC chicken scraps.
